Under the supervision of Environmental Education Manager (EEM) and Teacher Naturalists, Junior Counselors (JCs) are responsible for helping ensure PVNC Summer Camp runs smoothly. JCs are required to attend the entirety of their scheduled week, during which time they will be expected to help their assigned Teacher Naturalists facilitate camp activities before, during, and after the camp day.
· Arrive on time and promptly begin setting up and preparing for the day’s activities.
· Engage with the campers and be present. Be a positive role model; earn respect through action from campers and staff.
· Support the teachers by watching the campers at all times.
· Motivate campers to participate in all activities and events.
· Enforce the safety rules that have been put in place by the nature center staff.
· Assist with tasks. Help the teacher control the group and always ask what else you can do to help.
· Help with clean-up during and/or after pick-up time.
· Stay curious and have fun!
· Environmental Education Manager (EEM) during morning and afternoon assignments.
· Teacher Naturalists when assigned to a Camper group.
· In the absence of the EED, the Director and Assistant Director will direct the JCs.
· Must have completed at least 8th grade by Summer 2025.
· Must be available for the entirety of any week for which they have volunteered.
· Must be available for at least 2 weeks of camp.
A mandatory orientation and training session is scheduled for Wednesday June 4th, 2025, from 6:30-7:30 pm at Peace Valley Nature Center. If you are unable to attend this session, please note the conflict in your application and other arrangements may be made.
Monday – Friday from 9:00am - 3:15 pm:
June 16 – 20, June 23 – 27, (NO CAMP WEEK OF JULY 4), July 7 - 11, July 14 – 18, July 21 – 25, July 28 – August 1, August 4 – 8.
